My daughter and I just returned from an incredible vacation to Nevada! The Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon Skywalk were amazing. It was a wonderful vacation and we can’t wait to go back.
The red eye flight back was exhausting, but I was too excited to be tired. As I unpacked for laundry, I congratulated myself on using everything I packed. This meant I made my list, stuck to it and only took what I thought I would wear or use. I resisted doing my usual “just in case” packing. I even rolled each item to take less space in my checked bag. Of course jewelry and cosmetics went in my carry-on bag.
As I unpacked my carry on bag, I noticed my contact lens case was missing. I could always get another case, but this case had a pair of new contact lens in it. I started taking everything apart and couldn’t find it. I looked in every compartment of my luggage and nothing. I finally gave up and took out a new case and a new pair of lens.
So often we say we wish we knew God better. How is it that some people seem to discover more about Gods character than we do? Why are the experiences of others richer than our own? What is the process that friends use to uncover “gems” from the Bible when our own attempts produce mere facts?
The word seek implies intentional pursuit. So often in our busy lives we take time only for surface investigation, a few quickly read Bible verses, a hurried journey through our prayer list. Our minds are engaged but our heart and soul is occupied with anything but prayer.
God promises to give us what we truly seek. In fact, in some mysterious and wonderful way, He joins us in the search and rejoices when what we seek is found!
Two days later I found my lens case while vacuuming. It had fallen out when I was unpacking and was just behind my bedroom door. I rejoiced! Thank you Lord.
“If you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 4:29).
